RETINAL
DETACHMENT/TEAR

A retinal detachment is when the retina lifts away from the back of the eye, resulting in vision loss. As we age, the vitreous gel in our eyes starts to shrink and sometimes can pull hard enough on the retina to cause a tear to develop. The vitreous fluid can pass through the tear, lifting and detaching the retina.

Symptoms of a retinal tear or detachment include sudden flashing lights, noticing many new floaters, lines or cobwebs in your vision, a shadow in the side areas of your vision or a grey curtain covering part of your field of vision.

This is a serious and sight threatening problem and often requires urgent in-office laser or surgical intervention in an operating room setting.

The Central Minnesota Retina Specialists team of experts is well-trained in caring for individuals with urgent Retinal Detachment or Retinal Tears. We are here to help you understand your treatment needs, an get you on the right road to recovery.
